AQIS FCL & LCL Packing Requirements

AQIS has identified quarantine concerns associated with the importation of timber and plant material used as packing in consignments of imported freight.
The main materials of concern include:

  • Timber dunnage, pallets and crates,
    - bark
    - insect
    - damage
  • Straw and rice hulls
  • Plant contamination (plant trash, seed spillage, e.t.c)
  • Animal contamination (feathers, droppings, dead animals, e.t.c)
  • Soil

These materials are considered to pose high risks for the importation of significant pests and diseases that have the potential to seriously threaten Australia's agricultural industries.
Australia is free of a broad range of exotic wood boring insects that destroy standing timber and timber products elsewhere in the world.

What Documentation is required for FCL & LCL Consignments?
An acceptable packing declaration must be supplied for every FCL & LCL consignment entering Australia, where a packing declaration has timber declared, an acceptable treatment certificate must also be provided for the consignment. All documents must be assessed for their acceptability according to the Containerised Cargo Clearance Manual.
